Community: /kəˈmyo͞onədē/
noun: community; plural noun: communities
1. a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common.
2. a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.
At Eastern Iowa Community Colleges, community is more than a word, it’s more than a part of our name, it’s who we are.
Our employees and students are a huge part of the communities in which we reside. We are involved in countless organizations and activities, supporting the very things that make all of our communities so great.
Just one example is our annual participation in the Toys for Tots drive. Our Diversity and Volunteer Student Clubs sold candy bars and raised enough money to purchase 80 toys for the drive. This is above and beyond toys contributed at donation boxes around the college.
In addition, faculty and staff volunteer their time to help sort and package the toys.
It’s really become an annual tradition, now in its fifth year. We spend a full day at the Toys for Tots warehouse, sorting the presents by age group, helping to bag them up and getting them ready for the big day.
We’re told we accomplish a week’s work of worth in that single day!
Thank you so much to all our volunteers who donated their time and were such a big help.
